I made grapefruit salad other week and made it again today so here's the recipe. It won't be anything you'll ever think of putting together in a salad since this is a special dish.

You will need:

1 red or pink grapefruit
1-2 green chillies (de-seeded if you wish)
1 sprig of fresh coriander
1 large clove of freshly burnt garlic
salt to taste

  1. Cut the grapefruit ends then peel it like an orange. Carefully remove all the bits into a dish making sure no seeds or the white pith gets in. You don't want to squash and pull the flesh off and turn the whole thing into grapefruit juice so be gentle and leave it intact. A 'lil squashing and juice is fine.
  2. Finely chop the chillies and coriander and add it in along with enough salt to taste
  3. Now, if you're not an adult then please get someone who knows how to use a cooker for the next bit. What you need to do is take the unpeeled garlic clove and burn it over the cooker. That's right, burn it over an open fire. It has to turn nice and soft and if it burns too much then don't worry about it, it all adds to the taste! Don't wash it otherwise all the taste will be gone, now chop that nicely and add it in and mix well.
  4. Ta-da! Grapefruit salad!
Tips

  • Buy firm grapefruits, if you get ones that are a 'lil pudgy or squash easily then they'll be bitter. You want sour!
  • Everything is added to taste so change accordingly.
  • If you don't have a gas cooker for open burning just make a bonfire in your local park...just kidding! You can use fresh garlic, although burnt garlic has a distinct taste. Don't worry too much though.
  • Eat this on a lovely hot, summer's afternoon. I don't know why but it just tastes better.
  • Eat it on the day you make it, if you save it for breakfast then the grapefruit will turn very bitter.
  • If you're not a grapefruit fan then you can substitute it for other exotic sour fruits like green mangoes (not the horrid things they call 'mangoes' in Tesco please) and slice them verrrry thinly. You can buy them from Asian food shops, they're usually very small and very sour. If mangoes aren't your thing either then unripe pineapple chopped into small chunks will do too.

Have fun,
Sunday.

Hey Sunday,
I have been telling Wednesday that for a person who is "fussy about spelling/ grammar", you seem to make still make some.
Now I know you have the following warning "So don’t test me, you will get the cold shoulder."
However I have spotted at least one spelling mistake and one grammatical error in this post.
Sorry, could not resist making this comment.

What errors? You're just imagining things :P

Hehe,
Firstly "'lil" then " verrrry" and in the sentence: "You want sour!", the punctuation here should be a "?" rather than a "!"

See, you are not that fussy after all!
Correct English is too much hard work, I think it is easier to express yourself with slang, shortcuts and emphasis on certain words as it conveys your tone more effectively.

Keep up the posts and when are you going to fix your search box in the sidebar?

Give it up...
I'm allowed to emphasise certain words as if I'm speaking them, that doesn't go against not being fussy. Also, it's meant to be '!' since that is what you're going for.
Why do I have to fix the search box? It's a shared blog afterall...

About this blog

This blog belongs to Wednesday and Sunday and it's a collection of dreams and wishes...haha not! It's just a blog that has all sorts of things from the news to recipes to things that happened to us every day. We decided on making one while doing our exams and thought it'd be fun. Hopefully there will be something for everyone here as we are very different people and seem to cover a wide range of topics between us.

So long and thanks for all the fish!
